Let My Body Be

This is a song based on an E.E. Cummings poem. I wrote it because I play in a lot of venues where no one's listening. I hope my life, even in those moments, is being used by God for a good purpose. I hope that even after I die my body will have been used to help move along the next generation a bit closer to the "promised land". When God won-wonderfully In my design slowly prepares for me A cedar tree that I can climb Look down to see A man among the roots whose body sleeps Father, let my body be Beautiful beyond what I see And father, when my words pass away Won’t you stay, won’t you stay From his eyes grow the food his children eat From his hands, the grass soft on their feet From his heart grew the love that they need From his body exposed, a family Father, let my body be Beautiful beyond what I see And father, when my words pass away Won’t you stay, won’t you stay Inside the bone there lays a seed From the air to the dirt it was sewn so carefully May the rain and the snow and the children below Watch the flowers that grow surrounding me Father, let my body be Beautiful beyond what I see Father, when my words pass away Won’t you stay, won’t you stay
